Barge removed from spillway Tom Bevill
ALICEVILLE, Alabama (WTVA) – Crews have successfully removed the barge that struck the Tom Bevill spillway more than a week ago.
Since Monday morning, all the valves of the spillway have been working.
The barge detached from its upstream mooring near Columbus, Mississippi, and drifted downstream to the spillway near Aliceville, Alabama.
The impact blocked a valve at the weir for a week.
A similar situation had occurred a few days earlier at Stennis Lock & Dam in Columbus, Mississippi.
However, the barge that struck the Stennis Weir sank on impact and remains underwater. It is not known when the withdrawal will take place.
