First: “Appears to be an illegal raft”
“The footage of what appears to be an illegal raft does not comply with Bermuda laws as rafting is not allowed,” Prime Minister David Burt said, adding that he “asked the Minister of National Security to contact the Bermuda Police Department on this matter.
Prime Burt tweeted, “The footage of what appears to be illegal rafting does not comply with Bermuda laws as rafting is not permitted. I have asked the Minister of National Security to liaise with the Bermuda Police Service on this matter. “
While not implicitly stated, the Prime Minister’s comments appear to relate to images circulating – which appear to be from a number of Instagram stories – which show a number of people partying on boats and gave rise to a number of discussions on social media. .
Images and videos on the original Instagram posts, which were mostly published within the past 24 hours, are often tagged as Bermuda, appear to show Bermuda in the background, and other indications that they are in Bermuda, like a waiter dressed in pink Bermuda shorts and a Bermuda flag hanging from the boat. The videos also show a musical performance, with the images tagging the account of international artist Shaggy.

Many original Instagram posts also tag Revolve, and a look at the official Revolve Instagram account – which has 4.6 million subscribers – shows that they list their location as “currently in Bermuda” and have recent images that are clearly taken in Bermuda, such as at the unfinished church.
The government issued several large group exemptions for entities that included the Revolve name. One is for dinner tonight [June 9], one for dinner on Monday [June 8] at the unfinished church, one to allow people to gather from June 6-11, and one for what was called a “Group Yacht Day” last night, which said it allowed a “group more of 10 people to meet on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 between 7:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. at the Unfinished Church, Government Hill Road, St. George Parish under the following conditions:
“People attending or working at Revolve Group Yacht Day must be able to demonstrate that they are fully immune or have tested negative for the coronavirus at least 3 days before Tuesday, June 8, 2021. Use of the SafeKey QR code issued by the Ministry of Health will say people have either been fully immunized or tested negative for the coronavirus in the past 72 hours. Number of participants: 80 [70 Revolve Group / 10 support staff]. “
Bernews has contacted a number of entities seeking feedback and / or additional information and we will update where possible.
