New McAfee+ offers privacy and identity protection
McAfee Corp. today announced the launch of McAfee+, a new product line that encompasses privacy and identity protections designed for confident and secure online living.
Comprehensive new product suite gives users access to a host of services: personal data cleansing, always-on credit monitoring and reporting, credit lockout and security freezes, identity theft and stolen funds coverage $1 million, $25,000 ransomware coverage, identity restoration, and the ability to secure devices with threat and virus protection.
As part of the new offering, McAfee has introduced protection for Chromebooks, making it the first leading security vendor to fully support Chrome OS. With the service, Chrome OS users can install and access McAfee features on their Chromebooks, including antivirus, virtual private network, safe browsing and identity monitoring.
McAfee+ provides online protection, such as removing personal information from unnecessary and risky places online, including people search sites and data broker sites that sell personal information to advertising companies, hackers and other malicious actors. The service also offers proactive dark web monitoring for personal information as well as integration with McAfee’s antivirus and Secure VPN products.
The Identity Theft Protection offering is certainly noteworthy, with $1 million in coverage covering identity theft, stolen funds, and identity restoration in the event of identity theft. The $25,000 ransomware coverage may only help individual users or very small businesses, but it’s also a nice addition to the package.
“As the internet becomes more of a part of consumers’ daily lives, there are growing concerns about the amount of personal data accessible to bad actors and a lack of understanding on how to delete and secure personal information,” Gagan Singh, executive vice president and chief product and revenue officer of McAfee, said in a statement. “McAfee+ is designed to combat these trends and threats, helping users be better protected against identity breaches and proactively removing their information from the web to minimize future threats.
McAfee+ offers three different plans: Premium, Advanced, and Ultimate. The McAfee+ Ultimate plan is the only plan with insurance coverage and includes other features such as unlimited VPN access and credit monitoring and alerts from three major bureaus.
McAfee+ is initially only available in the US, with plans to launch the service in the UK, Canada and Australia in the coming weeks. McAfee+ Premium costs $49.99 for the first year, Advanced $89.99, and Ultimate $199.99. After the first year, the prices increase to $139.99, $199.99, and $279.99.
