Treasures await at Rochester’s only pawnshop
The phrase “you never know what’s going through that door” can be associated with the TV show “Pawn Stars,” which features a Las Vegas pawnshop and the treasures brought there, but it does apply. also at Pawn America in Rochester.
Employees say that the objects that come through the doors are, for the most part, tame. But every once in a while there’s a gem that hits the Rochester shelves.
Here are five of Rochester’s Pawn America’s most unique items.
1. PANArt drum
Price: $ 6,374.96
Considered the most “unique” item in the store, this original drum, also known as a handpan, was one of the first models of its kind and was imported from a store in Robbinsdale, Minn.
The drum is handmade with copper parts and is made of two stamped and nitrided steel sheets. It is played by tapping the seven tone circles around the top of the drum and the sound then comes out through a hole in the bottom.
The Hangdrum PANArt was created in 2000 in Switzerland.
