Warhammer 40K: Black Templars Crusade Fleets – Chariots of Retribution
Today we dive into the crusading fleets of the Black Templars – striking against the enemies of humanity wherever they please!
Unlike many other Chapters, the Black Templars do not have a homeworld. Avoiding the thought of having one, they choose to live aboard their crusading fleets. These vary in size and are made up of dozens of battle barges, attack cruisers, and other craft such as training ships and huge forge ships. Given this fleet-based nature, the Black Templars are rarely assembled in chapters, but are instead divided into multiple crusades, with each crusade responsible for its own recruitment as well as training new neophytes. This flexible and mobile nature allows the Templars to pursue the Black Templars’ primary mission: to actively seek out the Emperor’s enemies and destroy them before moving forward to find the next enemy.
The exact number of crusade fleets active at any given time, as well as the size of individual fleets, varies depending on chapter needs and capabilities.
Grand Marshal Helbrecht
The Grand Marshal himself has his own personal combat barge, the Eternal Crusader, a huge ship that is the spiritual home of the entire Chapter and contains its most sacred relics, chapels and shrines. It has been expanded and refitted several times and can currently hold twice as many Space Marines as a normal combat barge.
The Eternal Crusader is a Gloriana-class battleship and the largest ship in the Black Templars Chapter’s fleet.
Serving as the spiritual and operational center of the Chapter, it houses the Grand Marshal himself. The Eternal Crusader contains most of the Chapter’s relics, chapels and reliquaries and has been refurbished several times during its ten thousand years of service. The ship has additional docking facilities for escorts, additional launch bays for shuttles and Thunderhawks, and accommodation for twice as many Space Marines as a normal combat barge.
Eternal Crusader’s Service Log
The Eternal Crusader dates back to the Great Crusade where she served in the fleet of the Imperial Fists, and is said to have been one of Rogal Dorn’s favorite ships.
