What’s on your desk, Brandon Widder?
As they recover from the pandemic, many companies are leaning figuratively forward, securing inventory, and embracing new types of positions. The houseboat There is no difference. He recently hired Brandon Weider as senior trade writer. A brand new title for the next chapter. When I asked Brandon if he could show me his home workspace, that’s what he showed us (and taught).
Tell us a bit about yourself, what is your background and what do you do The houseboat??
Good question! I started recently The houseboat As the first advanced commerce editor. For now, I’m sticking to business enhancements, buying guides, gift guides, and other types of potentially commercial content. If this is an article with product recommendations (laptops, headsets, what have you got), there’s a good chance I will review it someday.
Before you start The houseboatI have handled a similar type of evergreen content for many years. Digital trends, Another mainstream tech site. He also regularly published alternative newspapers as a freelance writer in Portland, Oregon. I currently live with my partner and two cats. I’ve written mostly about local bands and touring bands, but there’s a lot of outdoor stuff here and there.
How did you decide where and how to set up your workspace?
Well, “decision” is a strong word. The pandemic has forced my partner and I to work from home. I think I was very lucky to be able to do this, but at first I didn’t have the dedicated space for the two to work. Fortunately, when the unexpected shortage of office space in 2020 subsided, we were able to set up a desk in the corner of the room, right by the window with a view of the rain. It might be small and unsatisfying in terms of feng shui, but honestly, it’s comfortable. Space is overrated.
Tell us a bit about the office itself.
The Mangear De Wayfair office. I didn’t really choose it… let’s say I inherited it when I swapped my workspace with my partner at home. It’s hard to admit, but I like it. It’s relatively sturdy and gives you just the right amount of storage space. It’s not very big, but it has a drawer that can be stowed away. AirPods Pro And probably all the cables that should have been thrown away 10 years ago.
And what about your office chair?
Like my Louise office chair, I came with the territory when I took over the office. I was looking for a match for a brass guest bed tucked away in the corner of the room. It’s a bit too appealing for my taste, but it’s very comfortable and pairs well with other decorations. Apparently it’s “organized by Kelly Clarkson”. This was immediately evident when I looked at the product list. I wish I could tilt it.
The setup is pretty straightforward compared to some of Verge’s compatriots. Can you tell us a bit about your technology?
Things can really get to me, so I try to keep things clean. For work I have M1 MacBook Air, but since it’s in the safe under my desk you don’t know. It’s a great machine developed by Dieter and his team. Already springing up.
On the front of peripherals I recently Dell Digital High End U2720Q This is an excellent 4K display that offers a slightly larger screen area than Air, while charging your laptop via USB-CI also with the Apple keyboard Magic and the Trackpad Magic 2 never been a huge fan of desktop mice, so when I took an external monitor, the trackpad made sense.
Elsewhere on my desktop Anker Wireless Qi Charging Pad With my iPhone X Sonos One, I listen to everything from political post-punk to the magnificent instrumental work of Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnals, but the Sonos line really shines regardless of the genre. I’m not good at the whole ecosystem, especially given its simplicity.
Tell us about an interesting piece of wood on your desk. And – the jaw?
When I’m not working, I spend most of my time outdoors. He loves hiking and backpacking and is deeply involved with one of the local search and rescue organizations, Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue. Driftwood comes from the coast of the San Juan Islands. Rocks from a small summit in Sun Valley, Idaho. My attraction to nature extends to the bones – I know it’s morbid – that’s why Bobcat’s skull is on the desk. However, I am a little confused at this point because I lost to the cat.
I am fascinated by the old-fashioned light bulb next to the factory.
Ambient lighting. There is a small business in Portland. Glove Maid Manufactures a variety of wood and leather office accessories. Most of them work on the expensive side, but the quality is excellent. I had a walnut lamp that was out of stock a few years ago, but recently Leather pad where the keyboard and trackpad are. It’s basically me trying to put more natural elements in the folds.
And there is a notebook and a pen near the keyboard.
Okay! Like most people The houseboatI probably have more spreadsheets and Google Docs than I admit. With a notebook, you can write simple notes and keep them handy. Also, it is really good to physically write every now and then. I think this is something that many of us can thank. Field Note They are available in a variety of shapes and sizes, some of which are waterproof.
Is there something in your workspace that we don’t cover?
not really! The only other thing to note is my backlight. This is important during rainy times if you live in a rainy area like me. For me, the Philips Hue color bulb One of the reasons is that we take advantage of the Hue network. If you need a bright light for a Zoom call, or need more grumpy for work outside of office hours, just tell Alexa. It’s super convenient.
Also read Carrie Brownstein’s autobiography And Black Le, red wolf By Marlon James, they’re both sitting on my desk now. Don’t be disappointed.
